Haller mga Kachochal!
In tradition of Chochality 101, narito na ang ilan sa
mga famous chochal expressions and terminologies at
ang guide kung paano gamitin ito. But wait, there’s
still more! Meron pang free lessons on “The Art on How
to Express ChochalSpeak” sa bawat expressions.

At para maging effective, use it in a konyotik way.
How? Use the Jenglish and Filipino language
alternately. You know, the style sa pagtatayp ng text
message wherein you use the malalaki and maliliit na
letters alternately in one word to complete a
sentence? JuSt LiKe ThAt, GeTs Mo?!

Okay, so let’s start the lesson na. As in now na!

Ahmm - expression kapag wala ka nang masabi, hindi mo
na alam ang sasabihin mo or kapag ikaw ay
nagje-jenglish at hindi mo alam kung ano ang jenglish
ng sasabihin mo. Pamalit sa jologs expression na
“ah..eh..”.

Example: The essence of being a woman is…ahmm…ahmm…
can you please make ulit the question?

As if - expression na kalimitang kapartner ng “duh?!”
ngunit may kasamang statement ng pang-ookray.

Example: Duh?! As if she’s pretty to make inarte eh
mukha naman syang nginuyang chewing gum!

As in - expression upang bigyan ng emphasis ang isang
statement.

Example: He was so gwapo talaga! As in!

Duh?! - expression kapag ikaw ay in doubt o hindi
naniniwala sa sinasabi ng kausap mo, o kapag feel mo
lang mang-asar. Karaniwang sinasabi ang expression na
ito with matching rolling of the eyes na parang
sinasapian ng masamang espiritu.

Example: Duh?! (Sabay roll ng eyes, pwede mo ding
i-roll ang ulo mo kung gusto mo).

Eewww! - expression kapag ikaw ay nandidiri; pamalit
sa expression na “yuck”. Karaniwang sinasabi ang
expression na ito with a “wavy accent”.

Example: You want me to walk on that maputik na
kalsada? Eeewww!

Excuse me? - expression kapag hindi mo masyadong
naintindihan ang sinasabi ng kausap mo dahil hindi mo
pa nadidiscover ang paggamit ng cotton buds or dahil
kulang ka sa iodized salt, or whatever, kaya di mo
na-gets at gusto mong i-rewind ng kausap mo ang mga
sinabi nya.

Example: Excuse me? Will you please make ulit your
kwento again from the beginning ever since the world
began?

Haller - a) chochal term sa salitang “hello”.
Karaniwang sinasabi kapag may gusto kang i-greet.

Example: Haller! How are you na? Long time, no look after 25 years ah!

b) expression kapag gusto mong salungatin ang
statement ng ibang tao. Kagaya ng “duh?!” ginagamit
din ang expression na ito with matching rolling of the
eyes. Or para mas cool, paikutin mo din ang ulo mo ng
360 degrees ala-Linda Blair sa Exorcist.

Example: She’s pretty daw? Haller?! Mas pretty pa longkatuts namin sa kanya noh!
Hmmm - expression kapag ikaw ay nag-iisip at upang
i-convince mo ang kausap mo na nag-iisip ka nga.

Example: Ano nga ba ang square root ng 1,256? Hmmmm…

It was, like… - term in the middle of your pagkukwento
at gusto mong i-describe ang nararamdaman mo.

Example: Grabe! It was like, I’m in heaven when my
crush make pulot all my nalaglag na things, including
my sanitary napkin!

Noh! - sinasabi ito at the end of the sentence upang
ma-emphasize ang pagiging konyotik mo.

Example: Eh mas pretty naman talaga ako than her noh!

Oh my God!/Gosh! - expression kapag ikaw ay
na-surprised or na-shocked o hindi makapaniwala.

Example: Oh my God! I wasn’t expecting that DJ Jep
will make bati me in his column! I’m so kilig!

Ouch! - expression kapag ikaw ay nasaktan. Pamalit sa
jologs na salitang “aray”.

Example: Ouch! Are you blind? You make tapak on my
toes!

Seriously? - expression kapag gusto mong i-confirm ang
sinasabi ng kausap mo kung nagsasabi nga ba sya ng
totoo at hindi dahil adik sya. Pamalit ito sa very
common word na “really?”. Syempre, dahil nagco-confirm
ka, dapat patanong ang manner of speaking mo. Kung
mahilig ka manood ng Grey’s Anatomy, you know what I
mean.

Example: You won Binibining Talipapa in your friendly
neighborhood? Seriously?

Super Duper - expression kapag gusto mong bigyan ng
emphasis ang statement mo to the highest level. Mas
malufet ang powers nito, kesa sa “as in”. Kalimitang
sinasabi before the adjective. At para mas malufet na
tipong wala nang tatalo pa sa statement mo, dagdagan
mo pa ng “mega over”.

Example: He’s so super duper mega over gwapo talaga!

Whatever - a) expression kapag wala ka nang maidugtong
pa sa sasabihin mo at hindi mo alam kung paano
tatapusin ang iyong sentence.

Example: Let’s make punta sa Divisoria and then let’s go window-shopping, boylet hunting, or whatever.

a) expression kapag give up ka na sa sinasabi ng
kausap mo at ayaw mo nang makipag-talo pa. Para mas
effective, sinasabi ito sa pamamagitan ng paghahati ng
words na “what” at “ever”. At dapat, sinasabi ang
“ever” with the rolling “rrrr”. At para mas dramatic,
sabayan ng rolling of the eyes.

Example: What. Everrrrrr.

Well, I mean - kalimitang sinasabi ito kapag ikaw ay
nag-e-explain at gusto mong maniwala sa yo ang mga
kausap mo na nagsasabi ka nga ng totoo.

Example: Well, I mean, I know na baka she’s insecure
lang to me kasi I’m prettier than her kaya she’s
making all those chismis, but I didn’t really make
agaw her boyfriend noh!

Yeah/Yep - substitute term for “yes” or “oo” para mas
cool.

Example: Yep, we just met last time sa party. Ako yung
nadulas sa dance floor, remember?

That’s all for today class. I hope you learn something
for today na you can make gamit in your everyday life.
Til next Chochality!

Always remember:
Be bold. Be proud. Be chochal.
